Our flagship Port Cask Finished Virginia-Highland Whisky is made from 100% malted barley and showcases both Old World and New World whisky-making. Virginia Distillery Company marries whisky made on-site in Virginia with whisky from Scotland. Cask finishing in port-style wine casks sourced primarily from Virginia adds depth and complexity.
Nancy Fraley, an International spirits nosing expert, has assisted in putting together this flagship whisky and offered the following notes: “On the nose, dried fruit and raisins are evident, along with vanilla and barrel spice. The palate displays hints of toffee, cocoa and toasted oak with a soft finish.”

The Cider Cask Finished Virginia-Highland Whisky is made from 100% malted barley, marrying whisky from Scotland with whisky made on-site in Virginia. The whisky is then cask finished for 8 – 20 months in cider casks coming from producers such as Potter’s Craft Cider and Buskey Cider. This process imparts flavor and nuance from the originating barrels, showing the cider influence through notes of apple, pecan and vanilla. This release is offered annually during the fall and is a limited release. Cider Cask Finished Virginia-Highland Whisky is the perfect complement to the Fall season.

The Brewers Batch is a new collection being offered under Virginia Distillery Company’s Virginia-Highland Whisky series. This batch features finishing casks sourced from local breweries.
This second batch features 3 Stars Brewing Company, a Washington, D.C. favorite. The brewery used Virginia Distillery Company whisky barrels to age their Barrel Aged Ale. The distillery took the casks back and finished whisky in the barrels for over 12 months. This process added complex notes of dark bittersweet chocolate, biscuit, vanilla, toffee and pecan to the palate, creating a very unique and interesting whisky.
With only five casks produced, this collaboration whisky will go fast!

The Charity Cask Program is the opportunity for Virginia Distillery Company to give back to our local community. The net proceeds from the sale of the bottles goes to support the beneficiary. This year, Nelson County's SPCA, Almost Home, was chosen on our social channels to receive the funds.
Snowing In Space, a cold brew coffee company in Charlottesville, brewed coffee in a Virginia Distillery Company whisky barrel. Whisky was filled back into the cask after the coffee was emptied from the barrel. The whisky finished for 14 months, which added notes of cocoa nibs, walnuts and roasted coffee beans. Straw gold in color, the palate offers hints of vanilla and mocha, melding together for a smooth and vibrant finish. Virginia-Highland Whisky is a culmination of Old World and New World whisky making, showcasing 100% malted barley whisky made on-site in Virginia married with whisky from Scotland.
Our second batch of Chardonnay Cask Finished Virginia-Highland Whisky rested for an average of 12 months in finishing casks sourced primarily from Virginia wineries such as Grace Estate Winery, Michael Shaps, Virginia Wineworks and Paradise Springs Winery.
Each partner barrel brings nuance and complexity to the whisky, with notes of lemon zest, green apple and honeysuckle. Hints of pear, vanilla and baking spices add intrigue on the palate, finishing with a soft creaminess.
This whisky is available at our Visitors Center and in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Virginia and Washington DC.
